What's Your Story?

A Human Library Experience - What's Your Story?

Mental Health Month - October 2024

Mental health issues will affect 1 in 5 Australians every year. Anxiety disorders are often the most common mental health challenge, followed by depression.

Mental Health Month is co-ordinated every October by Way Ahead, This year the theme is ‘What’s your Story’.

AB Library will be hosting a Human Library event to promote good mental health and wellbeing.

‘Readers’ will be able to borrow a ‘book’ from the library – all members of the community who work inthe Mental Health industry or have been affected by mental health in some way.

Human Libraries aim to break down stereotypes and preconceived ideas by having the ‘books’ volunteer to tell their stories to a ‘reader’ – encouraging conversations and providing an opportunity for  the wider community to share and understand the experience of others.

Our Books will be members of the local community (such as AB High School counsellors, AB Hospital/Mental Health unit, Joint Ministries Group, Multi-cultural Reference Group, and the Social Justice Group) as well as mental health practitioners in the area.

This is a free event but bookings are essential - booking information below.
