International Youth Day 2024

Join the Azure Beach Library to discuss sustainable futures for International Youth Day 2024!

Young people are today’s main targets of the fast fashion industry, with unethical online stores that sell clothes made of plastic and petroleum being promoted at a large scale through social media to teenagers and young adults. The outpouring of rapidly changing social media trends has endorsed mass overconsumption that destroys the planet as landfill begins to overflow with items that have only been worn once.  

The Azure Beach Library is partnering with a sustainability expert to share with young people how to live more sustainable lives for International Youth Day and discuss issues such as fast fashion, social media advertisement, and overconsumption.

What is International Youth Day?

International Youth Day is commemorated each year on 12 August, and aims to raise awareness of youth issues. Each year a theme is selected - this year's theme is "From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development." The event is a United Nations initiative, and they provide a number of materials for libraries hosting IYD events.

Youth Click to Make a Better World

Digital technologies contribute to 70% of the goals for sustainable development. Young people are masters at digital technology and are targeted to making our world more sustainable.

Join us at Azure Beach Library on Monday, August 12 for an interactive event for youth aged 15 to 24 years. We will be joined by our guest speaker Gavin Choong, the 2024 Youth Representative to the United Nations.
