It's certainly artificial, but is it intelligent? | The Artificial Intelligence Workshop

It's certainly artificial, but is it intelligent?

Find out at the Artificial Intelligence Workshop!

Artificial Intelligence is everywhere at the moment. Sometimes it's summarizing a hard-to-read paragraph, other times it's writing your homework an hour before it's due (followed by getting lectured about by your teacher).

This still-new technology has a lot of people excited. I mean, it makes everything so easy! So why do people say that it's dangerous? What are these things being talked about regarding art and misinformation and... relationships? You can do that?

Thankfully,  Azure Beach Library has you covered this International Youth Day.

We're running an Artificial Intelligence Workshop!

Everyone is invited to participate in this orientation into the world of A.I. and the various wonders and dangers that it offers. Engage with the resident experts of this new technology and learn the ways you can utilize it to pave the future!

Empowered Youth, Sustainable Tomorrow: Be Heard. Be Bold. Lead the Change

The future needs your voice — and this International Youth Day is your moment to speak up. Your voice matters more than ever.

We’re excited to invite the young people aged 15–24 to attend Empowered Youth, Sustainable Tomorrow, a 90-minute youth dialogue session celebrating the 2025 United Nations theme: Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Future. You’ll hear from Satara Uthayakumaran, Australia’s 2025 Youth Representative to the UN, followed by interactive discussions on sustainability challenges and local leadership. Participants will contribute to a Youth Action Wall and collaborate to create a collective message that reflects the voices of young people, which will be shared with the local council. Light refreshments will be provided to keep participants energised, and the session will include a range of youth-led, creative activities designed to inspire discussion, collaboration, and community engagement.

Why just watch change happen when you can be part of it?

This is your opportunity to be heard by local decision-makers, connect with empowered youth leaders, and add your voice to the growing movement of youth-led action. You’ll leave with fresh inspiration, meaningful connections, and the power to shape a better future by sharing your ideas and engaging in your community.

International Youth Day Trivia Evening 2024!

Missed Information?
Fact or Fiction Trivia Evening!

This International Youth Day...

Digitisation offers great opportunities for youth to have an impact in addressing global issues, but not without a great challenge.

The rise of the digital world has also seen the rise of misinformation and fake news.

Where is the line drawn between truth and falsehood? How can we confront the spread of misinformation across the web, and spread awareness for our community?

In order to push forwards with sustainability and youth-led solutions to broad issues, we must learn to combat the spread of misinformation across the web - for ourselves, and for the Azure Beach community.

That's where you come in.

You are invited to attend a trivia evening that tackles these questions and more! Prizes for first, second and third place are up for grabs!

Additionally, there will be a short discussion led by journalist and author Rick Morton, with emphasis on how to spot misinformation, and how to educate others in the community as well.

Date: 12th August, 2024

Time: 4:30pm - 6:00pm

Location: Azure Room, Azure Beach Public Library

Bookings: Book ahead on our library website, Eventbrite, or through the link down below!

Human Library Event - Speak Your Mind: Conversations on Youth Mental Health

This October, join us at Azure Beach Library as we hold our first Human Library Event to celebrate Mental Health Month for Youth!

What is Mental Health Month?
Mental Health Month is celebrated in October every year and provides people with an opportunity to learn more about mental health and encourages them to seek help when they need it.

What is this event about?
In accordance with the rise of mental health cases affecting the youth today, Azure Beach Library has decided to hold a Human Library Event to help spread awareness on various mental health issues in today’s youth.

Partnering up with the Human Library Organisation, Azure Beach Library has invited 6 people (known as “Books” in this event) who have either lived experiences or are mental health experts in the following topics:
•    Anxiety
•    Depression
•    Body dysmorphia
•    Eating disorders
•    Schizophrenia
•    OCD

Young people coming to this event (those living with mental health issues, or friends and family of young people with mental health issues) will have the opportunity to “borrow” these Books and have a conversation with them in a safe, open and inclusive space.

Azure Beach Library hopes this event will challenge people’s views around mental health and erase negative stigma, as well as providing a safe space for the youth to seek help and access resources.

Date: Saturday 5 October 2024

Time: 10:30am - 1:45pm

Location: Azure Beach Library, in the Azure Room

Cost: Free

Booking information: Bookings are essential.

Please register via the Eventbrite link here, or contact Azure Beach Library here.

Please be advised you must be at least 16 years old to attend this event as this event may contain mature/sensitive content.

Trumping ignorance // Triumphing enlightenment- Human Living Library

"Almost 1 in 4 young people meet the criteria for a probable serious mental illness (PSMI)"

Mission Australia and Black Dog Institute report.

October is Mental Health Awareness Month, which means this is the perfect time for us to reflect upon the importance of a healthy mind and what it means to live with mental illness. In this society, while our attention to physical health is paramount, we often forget that a healthy mind is the driver behind our ambitious endeavour to self-improvement.

By now, you're probably wondering what we mean by 'human living library'---a human library or book is a group of people or a singular person who has willingly volunteered to share their anecdotes and stories to complete strangers. In placing a face and voice to a story, libraries and their living books hope to enlighten 'borrowers' (like you) about often controversial topics.

Join 4 brave human libraries as they share their experiences of the highs, lows and curiosities of mental illness- below reads a list of the kind of books available for you to borrow (off our extremely limited, one-off shelf):

- Bipolar disorder: not all black-and-white.

- Schizophrenia: more than meets the eye.

- Dissociative identity disorder: seldom understood, always judged.

- Obsessive compulsive disorder: not an adjective.

At the conclusion of the session, you will have the opportunity to collect a free 'mental health ribbon' enamel pin as souvenir of your experience.

Learn how you can weaponise truth and empathy to combat stereotypes, find common ground and improve your own state of mind.

DATE: 7th of October, 2023 (First Saturday of the month).

TIME: 1:00pm-4:30pm.

LOCATION: Azure Beach Public Library main branch- Cove Meeting Room.

FEE: Free entry, register interest.

To learn more and register your place as borrower, please click the button below- Be quick! spots are limited.

For more information about mental health, please visit; Youth Mental Health- Black Dog Institute- https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/research-areas/youth-mental-health/
