The TCK Experience!
HUMAN LIBRARY EVENT
~ Tuesday 21st March ~
at
~ Azure Beach Public Library~
What is a TCK?
TCK stands for ‘third culture kid.’ A TCK is someone
who grew up in a country or culture that is different to their parent’s home
culture. Because of their experience growing up being exposed to two different
cultures – their parent’s culture and the culture of the country they are
living in – the culture they identify with ends up being a mix of both, a
separate ‘third culture.’
What to Expect?
In accordance with Harmony Week to celebrate our community's cultural diversity, Azue Beach Public Library is holding a human library event. This is an event where participants can check out a human library book, or in other words, set aside some time to have a converstion with a volunteer about a topic they have significant experience in. The aim is to start interesting and engaging conversations that people would typically avoid. Our event is themed around the many cultures and experiences that come with being a TCK in Australia.
Come and sit down with one
of our 8 TCK human library books and have a conversation. This is an
opportunity to learn about some of the different cultures that are a part of
your community. Do you want to learn about the culture they grew up in? Perhaps
you are interested in their unique cultural identity, or the struggles that
come along with that. Bring any questions you may have and enjoy the
conversation that follows.
