Knowledge Through Experience
A human library event is where you borrow people as books. That is, you make a booking with a person or human book and get to have a conversation with them about their life and experiences, and thus like the theme of our event based on understanding dementia, gain 'Knowledge Through Experience', namely the knowledge of that human book's experiences with dementia.
Dementia Action Week is an annual event put on by Dementia Australia to raise awareness about dementia in the community in order to make a more tolerant and friendly society. For more information visit their website : Dementia Action Week | Dementia Australia
It is also an event that Azure Beach Public Library also participates in each year. This year we do so through the Human Library Event.
Our human books include: Dr David Jones (Dementia Specialist Westmead Hospital)
Karen Peters (Dementia Specialist Nurse North Shore Private Hospital)
Warren Smith (Living with dementia)
Alice Harwood (Living with dementia),
John Adams (Community Outreach Officer),
Lilly James (Home Carer Worker)
Jackson Rogers (Living with dementia)
and Barbara Waters (Relative of a person with dementia)
Azure Beach Public Library hopes to see you at the event, make a booking today and gain Knowledge Through Experience'
