Connect through reflection
Where: Azure Room,
Azure Beach Public Library
This event is ages16+
Join us in the Azure Room on Saturday 23rd June as we celebrate Refugee Week and connect with others in our community. This year Refugee Week has chosen the theme of Healing to "raise awareness of issues affecting refugees...and to promote harmony and togetherness" Refugee Week.org.
In order for our community to connect with each other, we have organised a Human Library event. Human Libraries are made up of people rather than traditional books. Readers can borrow a human book to listen to their story, ask questions and gain knowledge they may otherwise never know. For more information on Human Libraries, see humanlibrary.org
In this Human Library event, our books will share in their experience of war, persecution and discrimination, and how they have adjusted to life in Australia. Connect through our Books’ reflections - from Syria, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Iran. Our books share themes of terror, suppression, war, persecution and the most important of all - hope, joy and acceptance. How was their arrival in Australia? Who helped them on their journey? How has resettlement changed their lives?
Our Human Books and Stories:
Khaled Ibrahim : From Despair to Hope
Zahara Abdul : Voiceless Now Vocal
Alona Melnyk : War and Peace
Amir Hakimi : Persecution to Acceptance
